Legends of the hidden Zelda temple? Count me in!
I just finished my Internship for RMU at the Springfield Park District. It was a long map making experience crammed into 10 weeks, filled with learning experiences, and complete letdowns. One thing I really was sad about was that I wanted to bring the Botanical Gardens into a new age, make them modern. They did not want to change their logo, so I had to change directions on that front. But it was still an experience to be had!

(The physical posters shown here are rough proofs, and not representative of the final edition).
Amazing, and it’s not even finished
So a few weeks ago, the local news had announced that orange juice that is imported was discovered to have a chemical in it that was bad for you. Most major brands are imported from brazil, the country accused of having such chemicals in it. Floridas Natural is the only major brand not imported (as it says on the carton), so they have been flying off the shelves at our local shop.
The other day I was stocking the empty shelves and noticed a change in the packaging. Notice that the “USA” Brand on the bottom is enlarged, and that the “With Pulp” title on the top is now focused on the Red White and Blue colors of our Nation… Now either its coincidence, or these guys know how to adjust to the market pretty quickly. Either way, Its a pretty decent improvement over the older one, all except for the picture of the carton being handed over, Which could have been handled better.
I came across this sign at Old Navy the other day, and I really appreciated the design of it. It was a clearance sign, which is a way to clean house, so the obvious cleaner reference was a really nice touch. I also loved the 90s feel to it, as I have an affinity for that decade.
Here are some examples of detergent packaging as comparison pieces.

A couple of logos that I found throughout the web that I like. I commonly spend time on websites like Logopond or Logomoose, getting ideas from other designers.
These particular logos have images incorporated in the logotype, which I love!
So here is a packaging change that I really love. The one on the right is the old packaging, and the one on the left is the new. The old packaging was nice, but really feels like it was stuck in the 90s. The over use of yellow was almost overpowering. Their focus was also on being heart healthy. The new packaging has a focus on being natural, and the design exudes this idea. The wooden texture of the box, the hay, and the eggs, all give a natural and real feel to the packaging. The dark brown font has a down to earth feel as well. This all goes with the trend of being healthy, organic, and green. All in time for the new year!
Some other aspects that I really like is the tilt of the logo, which gives a sense of energy, implying you will have more energy when you eat healthy!
What do you think? Like it? Not so much?
Hello World!
Design is a huge part of this world, and very few of us really notice the work that goes into it all. Being an artist, and a designer, I have a great appreciation for this work, and this blog will be the place for me to share this appreciation. I will be sharing images that I like, critique some design, and share some works of my own. Feel free to input your own ideas and critiques, because Design Affects Us All
